Update on ‘Charlie’ the cat shot with arrow: Not out of the woods yet

In Kershaw County, South Carolina, Charlie the cat was shot through the chest in an egregious act of animal cruelty on Wednesday. Animal Control found the stray cat and immediately contacted Rescue Dogs Rock NYC for help.

“Sometimes in rescue you see things you wish you could ‘un-see’, things so horrible that you know they will stay with you forever, things that cause a visceral reaction. This is one of those things. These photos make us physically ill.”

Charlie miraculously survived surgery on Wednesday. The arrow was removed, and his maggot infested wounds cleaned away. Veterinarians estimate he had suffered in excruciating pain for three or four days before animal control officers could rescue him.

The cat’s condition is now stable, however he will have his right leg amputated soon. Charlie didn’t deserve this – let’s hope the ongoing investigation leads to the culprit(s).
