Boynton Beach man caught on camera punching his dog relinquishes custody

In Boynton Beach, Florida,  a video showed a man punching a dog at Intracoastal Park on Sunday morning. On Tuesday, the owner of the dog relinquished custody of his pet while expressing remorse for his behavior.

The leashed dog named Adi, (short for Addison) had been walking with a man when the man stopped, punched the dog with his fist twice and then slapped the defenseless pooch again. Social media viewers were outraged when the video was posted to Facebook.

“UPDATE 9/29/20 2 p.m.: Addison’s owner permanently relinquished custody of her today following a visit to his home by our animal cruelty investigator.
Inv. Liz Roehrich said the man expressed extreme remorse and said he understands the gravity of his actions. She also said that two other dogs in the home, ages 11 and 13, appeared to have been well taken care of, and based on her observations, there is no probable cause to remove them.
“Adi can now look forward to finding a forever home filled with love and gentle hands,” Roehrich said,” posting for the Boynton Beach Police on their Facebook page.

Adi is currently in the care of Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control. She will be prepared for adoption.

An animal cruelty investigation is ongoing.
