An 18-year-old teenager caught on a viral video beating his dog on the sofa with clenched fists, screaming and punching the animal in the face in Manchester, United Kingdom, has been banned from owning pets for the next three years. The defendant appeared in court on June 14 where he was ordered to surrender ownership of his dog.
According to the Daily Mail, a friend of the dog’s owner, Eden Chemo, caught the attack on video when it occurred on November 5, 2018. Months later, the video was uploaded to Twitter and quickly went viral; viewed more than 800,000 times. The social media backlash was quick and identified Chemo as the dog beater.
The RSPCA launched an investigation into the attack on the Husky- Staffordshire bull terrier cross named Zeus and later charged Chemo with causing unnecessary physical violence resulting in fear and distress.
In addition to being banned from owning or keeping any pets, Chemo was ordered to perform one year of community service and fined.
Zeus will be made available for adoption and is expected to live happily ever after with a loving family.
“Zeus has been in the care of the RSPCA pending the outcome of this court case and has really come on leaps and bounds. At first he was frightened of hand movements and if anyone went to stroke near his head he would drop to the floor.
‘Now he has grown in confidence and he is such a lovely and friendly dog,” the RSPCA posted on social media.
