A tiny Maltese was found late last week wandering the streets of North Hollywood. Someone had poured a flammable liquid over her back and set her on fire. It is not known how she escaped from the cruel situation.
According to the Little Angels Project, the 10-year-old pooch, now named Candy, came to the rescue organization from the East Valley Animal Shelter in Van Nuys. The dog suffered burns over 50 percent of her body and will need long term care.
“It is very sad to see this kind of mistreatment of animals, but she is now in the arms of the caring vet staff that will make sure she has a second chance at life. It is very sad to see this kind of mistreatment of animals, but she is now in the arms of the caring vet staff that will make sure she has a second chance at life,” the group posted on their Facebook page.
It is suspected Candy had been roaming the streets with her serious injuries and in extreme pain for a week before someone found her and brought her to the shelter. The dog has since had to have the necrotic skin removed, and continues to slowly heal. Despite the pain and torture she endured, Candy remains very sweet and affectionate.
Animal Control and the shelter are investigating the alleged animal cruelty and are searching for Candy’s owner. If her owner is not found, the dog will be available for adoption when she is well enough to leave.
Get well soon Candy.
