Ginger seems to be another senior desperately in search of her human family. Adopted from the South Los Angeles Shelter when she was a puppy, now 11-years-old and her owner, even though contacted, never showed up. On Tuesday, Ginger had the opportunity to romp in the play yard, but instead spent nearly her entire time staring out into the parking lot.
A volunteer posted her heartbreaking story on a public Facebook page hoping to bring attention to the plight of senior dogs, and in this case, especially Ginger.
“I took her out to the play yard and she spent almost the whole time staring out into the parking lot …it was really heartbreaking to watch, you could tell she was looking for ‘them to pick her up.’
They never did ..so here she is at 11yrs old hoping to find a new home. I wonder what all of these abandoned animals would be doing if this shelter didn’t exist.”
And there is another message animal advocate Joy Freiberg wanted to share:
“The next time you think of slamming the shelter or slamming the employees, just know they gave them food, shelter and safety. The LA City and County Shelters are the ONLY shelters in Los Angeles with an open door policy – no animal is turned away. THEY ARE THE LAST STOP – no one else has an open door policy.”

I just don’t understand how someone can abandon a senior precious treasure…….. I am trying to figure out WHY……..
When we adopt a furbaby (dog, cat or horse), they are with us until they take their dying breaths……. Family is forever……
Do people think there is a huge pool of adopters for seniors? I adopt seniors because they are absolutely wonderful companions and show their love every chance they have…… But sadly, I don’t think I am in the “majority” of adopters…..
I hope Ginger is rehomed into a loving furever home where she will be treated as a beloved family member……
