The Richmond Animal Protection Society (RAPS) is caring for an adorable poodle, and one lucky little dog he is! Both police and animal welfare officers are investigating the disturbing circumstances of his discovery, after he was found double locked in a suitcase and dumped in a ditch in a suburb of Vancouver, Canada.
According to RAPS, the Richmond RCMP notified the organization about the poodle on Sunday and transferred the dog to their care. The dog was found near Alderbridge and No 4 Road, where a new development is going in near Walmart (and across from the armory) in the Nature Park area. The finder heard sounds coming from a ditch.
“…The finder pried open the suitcase … and found a dog inside. The dog had been in its urine and feces, but otherwise seemed in good health. The finder brought him home and provided food and water.”
Now dubbed Donut, the unaltered apricot poodle has been examined by the staff’s veterinarian and determined to be in good health; “recently groomed, in good condition, friendly and about six years old.” It is believed Donut had been locked in the suitcase from three to six hours on what has been reported to have been the hottest day of the year.
In addition to Donut, a seven week old white kitten with blue eyes was found abandoned in a Richmond park inside a Pampers diaper box. She has been named Goldie and will soon be ready for a loving home.
Donut will be the guest of RAPS during the investigation. In the future he will be eligible for adoption.
There is no excuse to abandon a pet; open admission shelters are obligated to help. Be the voice for those who cannot speak. Report any suspicions of animal cruelty and neglect.
