Frozen cat rescued from beneath train

A cat, frozen in ice and snow, was recently saved from beneath a train by a conductor in Canada. According to CBC News,  conductor Brad Slater, a Canadian National Railway employee, heard pitiful cries early Sunday morning, and when he went to investigate, he found the tabby frozen in the ice and snow beneath the train.

The cold cat was plucked out of the bitter cold and wrapped into a t-shirt. With the help of train engineer William Munsey, the chilled feline was able to warm up inside of the train – safely out of the frigid weather outdoors. Munsey told CBC News how the cat quickly settled in for the journey, and how he seemed to know which man had saved him, “Within five hours it was curled up on his lap … he was pushing his face against Brad’s arm. It was almost as if it knew how close it had been to dying and knew exactly which human had saved it.”

Slater dubbed the rescued cat Q199 (for the train’s number) and welcomed him into his home, but the cat may not be staying. A couple, who believes that Q199 may actually be their cat, “Tiger,” has come forward after seeing the media coverage of the heartwarming feline rescue. The couple, Brent Hahn and his wife Lynn Hahn, have retired from jobs with the Canadian National Railway and they told Slater that they adopted Tiger back in 2012.

The couple plans to meet up with Slater to determine if “Q” is actually their missing cat.

Baby python found with its mouth sewed together

In Miami-Dade County, Florida, a snake was found in a family’s backyard on Wednesday. When Lt. Scott Mullin, with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Venom One team was summoned to remove the serpent, he arrived at the house and expected to find a full-grown snake that could potentially be dangerous. Instead he made a disturbing discovery of a baby ball python with its mouth sewn together.python-with-mouth-sewed-up-2

The snake was no more than 14 inches long. According to the Miami Herald, the family had never seen the snake before. Mullin transported the python to a local reptile rescue group who assisted Mullin in removing the stitches from the snake’s mouth. It is not known how long the snake had been left in that condition, but it had developed a fungal infection as its mouth had been closed for an extended period of time. The snake will stay with the group to be rehabilitated.

On Sunday, when Mullin posted the photo of the snake on his Facebook and asked readers if anyone had any idea why someone would be so cruel, answers came back suggesting the act was related to  Vodou or Santeria. The dark, evil witchcraft regards snakes as belonging to the devil reflecting back to the Garden of Evil. It is possible a note had been left inside of the snake’s mouth designating the person to be cursed. Meanwhile the snake would have died a slow, torturous death. According to folklore, as the animal suffers an agonizing death, so does the person cursed.

Even though many people do not find snakes to be cuddly pets, this possible satanic ritual is nothing short of egregious animal cruelty. This little guy was lucky.

Owner leaves 4-pound dog outside in frigid weather

In Omaha, Nebraska, a woman left her two Chihuahuas outside in the frigid weather with no protection from the elements. The Nebraska Humane Society is now investigating the death of a 4-pound dog.

According to the Omaha World Herald, on Tuesday evening, Animal Control officers arrived at a home located on the 5000 block of South 18th Street to find two tiny dogs left tethered in the backyard. One of the dogs had died from hypothermia, and the other dog had become tangled within a fenced area and was unable to move. No shelter was available for either of the dogs.

The dogs’ owner, Maria Roubideaux, 24, faces two charges of animal cruelty. The surviving dog has been seized and is in the custody of the Nebraska Humane Society.  He is reported to be doing fine. Authorities are urging owners to be aware of the dangers leaving their pets outdoors. If there are no other options than leaving pets outside in the freezing weather, make sure to have insulated dog houses with flaps at the opening to block the wind, snow and freezing rain. Line the dog houses with straw or hay and make sure to keep water bowls from freezing.

Rest in peace little pup. How could any owner not realize a 4-pound dog doesn’t belong outside in freezing Omaha weather?

On Thursday, KC Pet Project made a joyful announcement to Facebook followers about an abused dog named “Roadrunner.” The organization stated, “Justice for Roadrunner! The former owner of the little dog, Roadrunner, who came to KC Pet Project in November 2014, plead guilty to felony and misdemeanor charges of animal abuse and abandonment today.”

Roadrunner was severely injured after being hurled from a third floor balcony and strangled with his leash – his injuries included eyes so badly wounded that they had to be removed and a fractured pelvis that required months of physical therapy.

According to Fox 4 News, his former owner, 38-year-old Kimberly Anderson, entered her guilty plea on Thursday. Anderson will be entering the Jackson County Mental Health Court and she is prohibited from possession of animals. She is also mandated to pay $200 in restitution to KC Pet Project and serve 120 days of shock time.

Another Christmas approaches for sheltered dog with no family

Another Christmas will come and go for homeless dog
Spread the love

Another Christmas is fast approaching for a homeless dog who is waiting for a family of her own. The pit bull mix, named “Uma,” is at the New Hampshire SPCA, where she has been waiting for a year.

On October 12, the shelter wrote of the homeless dog’s sad situation, “From her window in her adoption pod she’s watched over 360 dogs of all ages, breeds and temperaments leave our shelter with their new families. As difficult as it must be to be overlooked again and again, our Uma still looks out with hopeful eyes and a wagging tail.”

Halloween came and went, as did Thanksgiving and soon, the next big holiday will be nothing but a nearly forgotten whisper. Unless something dramatic changes, Uma will still be sitting in her adoption pod, waiting for her own family to take her home.

Uma’s adoption profile outlines her sweet personality, and her special adoption restrictions:

She’s a peach of a dog. She’s a Pittie mix who is about six and a half years old. It’s true that Uma has to go to a special, dedicated home: no dogs, no cats and adults only. But what a lucky home it will be. Uma has personality plus! She loves going on walks and she loves to stop on those walks and roll on her back while you give her belly rubs. Uma loves her treats, loves the pool and, most especially, loves love.

You can help Uma by networking her adoption information. Click here to read her adoption profile in full. Facebook thread here.

After obtaining a search warrant, and more videos were found, the couple was arrested and both are facing multiple charges. Trump USDA pick has animal-rights activists worried

Animal rights activists are worried
Spread the love

President-Elect Donald Trump’s recent choice for the person who will head up the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has animal rights activities worried…and rightly so. According to Wednesday’s publication of the Daily KOS, Brian Klippenstein, Executive Director of Protect the Harvest, has been selected to lead the USDA.

The organization that Klippenstein heads up supports puppy mills, and condemns the Humane Society of the United States,  People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), and the Animal Liberation Front (ALF). On the Protect the Harvest website, the agency’s stance is revealed:

The War on Pet Breeders And Stores

Pet breeding has a long, proud tradition in America but it’s facing some serious threats from animal rights groups.

Because you can’t just openly support laws and regulations outlawing pet ownership, HSUS instead works to regulate pet breeders out of business.

The organization also supports “animal entertainment,” such as circuses, and it has spoken out against humane farming practices, citing an increase cost of food, and a prediction that meat will become “scarce.”

If Klippenstein turns a blind eye to puppy-mill operations, the ongoing practice of cruel breeding practices will continue, unchecked. The ASPCA has described the horrific conditions often found at large-scale breeding operations:

Puppy mills usually house dogs in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions without adequate veterinary care, food, water or socialization. In order to maximize profits, female dogs are bred at every opportunity with little-to-no recovery time between litters. In a puppy mill, dogs are often kept in cages with wire flooring that injures their paws and legs—and it is not unusual for cages to be stacked in columns. When female breeding dogs reach a point of physical depletion and can no longer reproduce, they are often killed.

Who killed Mary? A sad message to irresponsible owners

21
Spread the love

At the Lancaster Animal Care Center in California, Mary lost her life on Wednesday. She was quietly led to the backroom of the shelter. She trembled with fright with her tail tucked tightly between her legs – as if she knew she had no future. Within moments Mary was restrained, poison was injected into her left paw and her young life quickly drained away. Mary never did anything wrong. She was a good dog. Here is her tragic story.

Shelter volunteer Sal Valdepena’s free time centers around the local shelters. His passion is helping to save the dogs. As he was uploading Mary’s profile to social media to bring more attention to her plight, he learned she had been euthanized. Sal was devastated but determined that Mary will not be forgotten:

“I was uploading her profile to get her seen. Tragically she was killed yesterday. I am still posting her because even though she’s gone I want everyone to see this sweet angel. To all the stupid f*** backyard breeders whose brains are no bigger than cockroaches look! To all the morons who dump pets look! And to the society who doesn’t give a sh** look!
This dog was only two years old and now she is gone. All that is left is the number given to her as an adoptable dog. Her description merely stated she was an unaltered stray who came into the shelter on November 28. She was killed on December 14. In shelters across the United States, 1.2 million dogs are euthanized every year. Tragically 40% of those dogs killed are  American Staffordshire Terriers, Pit Bull Terriers and “Terrier mixes.” Save a life – adopt a shelter pet.
Rip sweet girl. Humanity will ultimately pay.
Spay and neuter your pets – it’s as easy as that!
