In Flint Township, Michigan, the Flint Township Police Department searched a home on Tuesday to discover “overwhelming filth” with dozens of deceased pets while the live animals barely existed in horrible conditions.

According to the police department’s Facebook page, a search warrant had been executed on Tuesday. Repeated complaints about offensive odors, continuous barking and an excessive amount of trash led to an investigation.

….was not a few animals in poor condition. It was overwhelming filth. It was toxic air. It was death.

Ammonia smells inside the home tested at a hazardous condition prompting first responders to be in the home for limited amounts of time.

Dead animals had been left inside of trash bags near the home’s front door – 26 dogs and one cat. They were both adult dogs and puppies.

This was not a temporary lapse in judgment. Conditions like this do not happen overnight. This was prolonged suffering.

FTPD did not name the homeowner or suspects in this case for alleged animal neglect. An investigation is ongoing.

And as for the surviving animals, the Genesee County Animal Control saved 64 lives – 61 dogs and three cats that had been living in squalor and anguish for an unknown length of time, probably hoping someone would come and save them.

Nothing but waste and garbage covered the entire surface of the home, and their living conditions were honestly some of the worst rescuers have ever seen.

The team has worked together to help, and it has been a terribly stressful situation. Many thanks to Animal Control Officers, Director, and Deputy Director for removing these animals and bringing them to the safety of the shelter.

The work didn’t stop there – Animal Care Specialists have worked tirelessly to intake each and every one of the rescued dogs and cats. We’d also like to give a huge thank you to the Flint Township Police Department for assisting us with this monumental task.

So what’s next and how can you help?

The shelter is encouraging people to donate to its nonprofit for costs for food, medical items and other supplies. As of late Wednesday afternoon, the shelter has received more than $45,000 in donations.
