Officers from the New York Police Department Harbor Unit rescued an injured bald eagle on Tuesday that was spotted floating on the ice in the Hudson River.
The injured eagle was seen in the morning while officers had been on patrol. The eagle could be heard crying out as it clung to a drifting slab of ice in the freezing temperatures of the river.

Officers maneuvered their boat through the ice blocks pulling the boat up alongside of the stranded bird; an officer extended a long catch pole to pull it to safety.
In the video you can hear the officers reassuring the bird. Officers noted the eagle had been bleeding from its wing and one claw.
It’s alright, bro. I think he’s fine.
We got you. Get me a little closer.
The eagle is then safely taken aboard the boat, wrapped in a blanket and placed in a pet carrier.
The eagle has since been transported to the Raptor Trust in New Jersey for care and rehabilitation.
