Before Homer arrived at the Great Plains SPCA in Merriam, Kansas, the young dog had every reason to give up. After having survived a life of neglect, he had waited at a rural shelter for someone to adopt him, but overcrowding, limited resources and no adoption offers at all, Homer was listed for euthanasia.
Fortunately, Great Plains SPCA refused to let Homer give up, although he arrived at the rescue organization painfully skinny with severe hair loss and signs of long-term neglect from his previous home.
Acts of kindness from dedicated foster parents and volunteers have helped Homer gain confidence, and since being in a foster home, he has gained weight and has been finding out what love and kindness can mean. Sadly, his placement is only temporary, and it’s so important that Homer find a real home, and not have to return to the shelter.
So what is Homer like?
Homer’s caretakers and advocates tell us he is certainly easy to love. Mix that with the following qualities known about him, along with the power of social media, friends and family, we all hope Homer will soon find his “furever” home.
He’s easy peasy. Crate trained. Always potties outside. He has a mellow, gentle demeanor, sleeps a lot and is incredibly smart and patient. He did great meeting new people and would thrive as the only pet in a calm, loving home.
Homer is three-years-old, is calm and gentle. He loves people and will happily be your shadow, soaking up every bit of kindness and attention. His forgiving nature and soft eyes show he has lots of love to share.
Homer would do best as the only dog in the home so he can share his big heart fully. He’s ready for his forever!
