In Atlanta, Georgia, a man succumbed to injuries from a house fire after he ran back into his burning home to save the family dog.
Firefighters from the Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services, arrived at the home Sunday evening after a report the house had been engulfed in flames, and residents were still inside. Firemen rushed into the home and rescued a victim in the entryway. One person in the home woke up and noticed the flames. He ran into the bedroom to save his mother. Neighbors came to the woman’s aid as the two exited the burning home before firemen arrived.

It had been at that time the son rushed back into the home to rescue the family dog, Captain. Body camera video showed Lilburn police officers trying to rescue the man who had just saved his mother.
The man later died, but Captain survived and is being kept safe by a neighbor. The mother is currently trying to find a place to live, and a permanent home is needed for Captain. The American Red Cross is assisting the victims.

Fire officials said the home suffered extensive fire damage to the garage, main living area and attic. There were no active smoke alarms.
Rest in peace.
