At the MSPCA-Angell in Boston, sweet Dolly has been fighting for her life. Dolly arrived at the animal protection and veterinary medicine organization on Saturday at Angell after she was found in Lexington in critical condition.

Dolly was severely underweight and unable to stand when she arrived. Had she not been discovered when she was, it is likely she would not have survived another day.

The two-year-old mixed breed Staffordshire terrier has been receiving around-the-clock care and has been on a carefully monitored “refeeding” program in order to prevent refeeding syndrome; a dangerous complication of reintroducing food too quickly to starved animals. She has the lowest possible body weight score and also arrived with wounds on her feet and tail.
In addition, she suffers from multiple serious complications related to her emaciated condition. Her prognosis remains guarded, and she has a long road ahead of her to a complete recovery.

The young dog suffered from a seizure shortly after arriving at the facility. It is believed to have been caused by hypoglycemia. She also required a blood transfusion due to a gastrointestinal bleed of unknown origin. Surgery has not been ruled out.
She has the lowest possible body weight score and also has wounds on her feet and tail.
For the immediate future, Dolly remains in intensive care. The staff is optimistic that she will be able to heal and when she recovers, she can find a home where she is loved and cared for the way she deserves.
The cost of Dolly’s lifesaving care is expected to be at least $15,000, and it is only possible because of the generosity of people who believe animals like Dolly deserve a chance. And even with all that Dolly has been through and everything she is going through now to survive, the staff say she is incredibly sweet.
If you are able, please consider making a donation to support her care. To donate, please visit mspca.org/dolly.
The Law Enforcement team is actively working to learn more about Dolly’s past. At this time, the only information they have is that she was found outdoors in Lexington.
Anyone with information about Dolly’s owner is urged to contact MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement by phone at (617) 522-6008, (800) 628-5808, or submit a tip online at mspca.org/tip.
