In Lake Station, Indiana, two local fire departments arrived to assist with a house fire on Tuesday. Crews from the Lake Station and Hobart fire departments battled the blaze.

Once the fire was under control, firefighters discovered 42 chihuahuas in the home. According to Lake Station Fire Chief Chuck Fazekas, the dogs were healthy and in good condition – some suffering only minor injuries.

The dogs appeared well-cared for, however according to local ordinances in Lake Station, an owner who lives on property less than one-third of an acre can not own more than five dogs or cats.

The owner has taken the dogs to a private kennel for care. The pets are not available for adoption.

It is not known if any citations have been issued.
