A black and white Shih Tzu missing since 2017 has been reunited with his family in Youngstown, Ohio. The reunion happened because the family’s astute granddaughter spotted the dog online and just knew that the pup’s tiny face looked very familiar.

Sharon Kelly, who owns the dog named Saleo, stated her dog had been let outdoors for a potty break, but he never returned. For years, Kelly searched for her dog along with help from the police and routinely checking area shelters and rescues. She would always check Shih Tzus with similar black and white colored coats, hoping one of them had been her missing dog.

And now we fast forward to March 21 as Kelly’s granddaughter had been browsing recently rescued dogs from the Mahoning County Dog Warden and spotted the little Shih Tzu just found near Fellows Riverside Garden.
The black and white dog was dirty, matted and looked extremely neglected, but could that be Saleo the granddaughter thought? And so she contacted her grandmother who, after checking the photos, agreed the dog could be her long lost pooch. The distinctive white markings around Saleo’s eyes seemed to have cemented the dog’s identification.

The next day, Kelly arrived at the Mahoning County Dog Warden’s office, and with the photos and veterinarian records of Saleo, the identification was definite and the two were reunited.
I cried i was so emotional. you know, inside. The tears, i couldn’t hold them. I couldn’t hold them back.
On March 23, the Mahoning County Dog Warden shared a photo of the reunion between Kelly after Saleo had been bathed and groomed.

This is the little guy who was found near Fellows Riverside Gardens this weekend. His owner has been looking for him since 2017. We had him groomed today, and he went home! This was a great way to start the week!
According to Kelly, Saleo does remember her and was able to lead her mom home along their walking path.
Saleo is receiving veterinarian care for an eye infections, sinus problems and dental disease.
And for everyone who still has not found their lost pets, never give up. Welcome home Saleo.
