Heartbreaking victim of neglect surrendered to Memphis shelter garners widespread rescue efforts

How sad that a once beautiful German shepherd had been named Zero by her owner. And even sadder is the two year old dog’s physical condition. Zero was surrendered by her owner on November 15; no doubt she has been starved and neglected.

Zero arrived via intake per the date on her post. At present, she has not been fully evaluated for diseases, heartworms, temperament, injury, etc. Three (3) business day hold applies to strays for owners to reclaim. Owner surrenders and returns have no such grace period.

Although Zero is malnourished, she has not been evaluated by a veterinarian. Did her previous owner intentionally starve and neglect her? Does Zero suffer from an unknown condition?

As angry as rescuers are about Zero’s condition, please concentrate on rescuing her and getting her the help she desperately needs. Please be patient as an investigation proceeds.

According to the Critical Memphis Animals Page Admins:

“We are NETWORKERS. We are not the shelter. Our page raises pledges to attract and help 501c3 rescues. If you pledge on a dog, once an approved 501c3 pet placement partner (rescue) commits and pulls the dog that you pledged for, we put donors and rescue into a group message. You will then donate directly to the rescue- for that particular dog. If the dog is adopted (or sadly, euthanized) no pledges are collected.”

This is what we know about Zero:
