Shelbie, a spunky Labrador retriever puppy mix, hasn’t had the easiest beginning. Abandoned alongside two siblings on a highway in California, her young life took a terrible turn when she was hit by a car. This resulted in a broken femur, requiring surgery to mend.

According to HIT Living Foundation, located in Los Angeles, her siblings have been adopted, however Shelbie’s recovery kept her at the shelter. But now, this energetic nine-week-old pup is ready to turn the page and find a loving family of her own.

According to Meggan Oksness of the HIT Living Foundation, Shelbie “loves to be around people and dogs” and would thrive in a home with someone present for most of the day. Shelbie is also described as energetic, and another dog in the home would be a plus even though she is supposed to be on crate rest before her recovery is complete. This is a normal puppy who just wants to play!

She already knows commands to sit, give her paw and come. She is housetrained, and for the sweetest bonus, “gives the best little kisses and hugs and will make someone very happy.”

Overcoming such a traumatic start speaks volumes about Shelbie’s resilience. With her playful spirit and love for companionship, she’s sure to bring joy to her future family.
