At the California animal rescue organization, Hearts for Paws, volunteers help advocate for adoptions throughout the area’s shelters. Sophia’s story has just broken our hearts. When she entered the shelter at the early age of three months, she was adopted quickly. Everyone wished Sophia the best life any puppy could ever wish to have.
Sadly, life for dogs doesn’t always go as wished or planned, and just a few months later, Sophia was returned to the shelter, although it was no fault of her own. We all have heard the excuse “circumstances have changed”, but nonetheless it was Sophia’s circumstances that had changed. She was back in a kennel cage and back at the shelter.

The power of fostering in action! A million people saw her post, but only one came forward to help. When you see others in need & think to yourself, ‘someone should do something about that’, remember that you are someone too! Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? volunteer. Sophia is now in foster SF & available for adoption through our program at heartsforpawsrescue.com/adopt
And then came the second time, and then recently again; oh yes, a family adopted Sophia in October. But that was only short-lived, and one devastated emotionally drained puppy was returned to the shelter. According to the adopters, Sophia was not getting along with the family’s other dog.
Who can even guess how this poor girl has been feeling?

This time, however Sophia’s sadness having to return to the shelter and to her kennel really broke her spirit.
We saw Sophia had just been returned to the shelter; she was a different dog this time. Defeated and down, the happy girl we played with last month had lost a little light in her eyes. Still barely more than a puppy — Sophia was adopted as a 2 month old from the shelter, returned this summer through no fault of her own, then had a short lived adoption this month. Now she’s back. For a third time. Sophia is located at solano county animal care — 2510 clay bank road Fairfield California where she is back on the adoption floor and looking for a real forever this time!!
Sophia has been suffering from kennel stress, and it is so unfair that a loving puppy has had so much turmoil in her young life. Fortunately another foster home has been found for Sophia, where she is “decompressing.”
If one were to choose the perfect home for this puppy, it would be one where she could enjoy car rides, playing with other dogs, be around older kids and with a family who enjoys outdoor activities with lots of energy to share with this girl.
Sophia has done well with other dogs, and has had no problems with her kennel mates, but if someone wants to meet her, please bring the other family pets to the shelter to make sure it’s a match.
