A dog, found in a most precarious situation, has been returned to his family amid the devastation brought onto the state in East Tennessee by Tropical Storm Helene this past week.

It seems as if the dog had been pushed along by the flood waters along the Nolichucky River as it overflowed on September 27. Fortunately for the dog, she was able to grab hold of a debris nest in a treetop. And believe it or not – and it’s not fake news – the dog was found 20 feet up – five days after the storm flooded roads, homes and neighborhoods along the Blue Ridge Mountains.

It had been the Kingsport Fire Department Technical Rescue Crew who found the dog “alive and stranded.” Rescuers used an old ladder they found, to bring her to safety.

Check out the video as fire department officers climbed up to calm the dog before he carried her down to safety.

The dog showed her gratitude to all of her rescuers; she happily wiggled over to each one to give them all kisses. It wasn’t long before the dog made social media news, and it was her owners TJ and Allie Faulkner, who recognized her immediately.

What a miracle to get their dog, Athena back. Looking back, the family had to move quickly when they realized the river had overflowed and was barreling towards their home. They acted quickly to get their two children to safety, and TJ tried his best to rescue Athena, but the driving force of the flood had already carried off their home.

The family lost everything, but are thankful their children and Athena; “part of the family” are safe.
