Meet Goosie – a sweet four-year-old Labrador retriever who had been abandoned on the side of the road in an area with no houses in sight. There Goosie waited – in a rural area of Orangeburg County in South Carolina, until the kindness of a mailman, who spotted the dog sitting in a ditch on Saturday, stopped to give her some water from his own bottle because he didn’t have any food for her.
According to the Orangeburg County Animal Control, officers arrived at the location and were surprised that Goosie still waited at the exact spot where the mailman had found her. More than likely, the dog had been waiting for her family to return – a deep rise in tears and emotions for everyone involved during this rescue task.
The officers assumed she has had a few litters, but there was no sign of any puppies close by. Still, the officers didn’t want to just leave without thoroughly searching the area and spent hours with the dog hoping she would lead them to any puppies she might have hidden.
She would come close to them for a few seconds before heading back to the ditch where she was found.

Later, having had no success, Goosie was taken back to the shelter and given a full medical assessment to see if she had any injuries. She weighs 42.5 pounds, but she has signs of being severely underweight and is heartworm positive.
The shelter is reaching out to approved rescues to help with Goosie. She needs to be out of the shelter; she needs to be cared for both physically and emotionally. Please share her plight with friends, family, rescue organizations and social media contacts.
Who knows how long Goosie had been waiting out there? Who can even imagine someone being that cruel? Please help to make this dog’s life better – surely she deserves lots of care, kindness and love.
