Just before a huge snowstorm hit Tuscola County, Michigan, on Thursday, animal control officers tried their hardest to rescue a stray dog that had been roaming around the area for weeks. Thankfully, the dog was captured just before the storm.

According to the Tuscola County Animal Control, the dog, who had been given the nickname “Ghost” after having been tracked for more than two weeks and 100 miles, she finally took the tasty bait in one of the humane traps at a nearby residence in Reese.

The dog, now named, ‘Wanda the Wanderer’ had traveled through Munger, Reese, Caro, Mayville, Akron, Fairgrove and everywhere between these locations. It had been Officer Anthony Trevino leading the case, as well as the rest of the dedicated TCAC staff who were safely able to capture Wanda.

Many thanks also go to Cass River Pet Friendz for updating the officers every time Wanda had been spotted. Also, thanks to South Lyon Murphy Lost Pet Recovery for supplying the shelter with cameras for around the clock surveillance, as well has starting a fundraiser for our agency that collected over $2,000.

We would also like to give a huge thank you to Judy Dillon and Marianne Daily for your constant response to sightings and your tremendous effort in helping with her safe capture. We could not have done this without the help from ALL OF YOU. To everyone that stayed up to date with her locations, alerted our staff whenever she was seen, or even had her in her prayers as the entire community grew worried after every day she was still roaming. Tonight, she has a warm bed and a full belly where her mind can finally be at ease, as well as a wellness check at the Vet. clinic scheduled for tomorrow morning. What a great way to end the holiday weekend, as her story concludes with a positive note.

Wanda appears to be a Chesapeake Bay retriever and bully mix. She has been receiving medical attention and will soon be available for adoption.

And this is what happens when folks all work together. Welcome home Wanda – no more wandering needed!
