In Cleveland, Texas, it’s sad to report that animal neglect and abuse is not unusual. It’s even sadder to report that few animal welfare and rescue organizations are equipped with sufficient funding to help these innocent dogs with the life-saving emergency care they require.

On Tuesday, a tiny dog named Spartan, was one of the lucky ones as ThisIsHouston stepped up to help. He had been found lying under a mobile home all day. He had a deep, infected and bloody neck wound with flies buzzing around and biting him. Fortunately, a worker reached out to ThisIsHouston for help. The Good Samaritan had called other dog rescues, but no one else stepped up to help.

Spartan was spotted this morning in Cleveland. Who knows how long he sat in pain for, just waiting for something to miraculously happen. It’s so heartwrenching to think how alone he felt, or how many saw him and ignored him. And this isn’t a one time event, dogs are in this condition every single day in Texas. it’s just not fair.

Spartan is one of the “lucky” dogs because someone cared enough to do something. In this particular incident, it had been a contractor working on a mobile home nearby who noticed the suffering pup. The Good Samaritan took photos and a video and reached out for help. Had it not been for this person, Spartan would likely still be there suffering.

The dog has been rescued and is currently at the emergency veterinarian hospital. Updates to follow.

No one at this rescue could stand the thought of leaving him to suffer another day so they have you now Spartan. We’ll know more about him once he’s assessed.
