In Detroit, Michigan, the man who allegedly buried his dog alive seven months ago, because his new apartment would not allow dogs, has been arrested.

According to Fox News, Jacob Xavier Kasper, 20, was arrested and arraigned on Sunday in connection with the disturbing incident of burying his dog, Ghost, behind an apartment building in southwest Detroit.

Kasper had been charged in November 2022 – one month after Ghost was found; Kasper had been charged with killing/torturing an animal and another count of abandonment/animal cruelty. Kasper owned the dog and had buried Ghost alive in September. A few days later, a woman in the area heard Ghost crying and police arrived and were soon able to dig the dog out of the ground.

…I woke up to go to the bathroom and i heard the dog yelping and crying. I checked both basements and i didn’t see anything.

Woman who reported the dog buried alive

Ghost was rushed to the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue, but his injuries were too severe, and the next day he was humanely euthanized.

Dogs are living and breathing beings. Dogs should be attended to even if they are sick and especially if they have been abused. No living being should ever be buried alive in lieu of proper medical or other standard care. This is not rocket science.

Kasper is currently out on a $5,000 personal bond and is expected back in court this week.
