In St. Paul two people continue to face additional charges after allegedly speeding away from police and throwing a puppy out of their speeding truck.

According to CbsNews, Raylean Gurneau, 26, faces multiple charges including one count of fleeing a peace officer, four counts of animal cruelty and one count of making fictitious 911 emergency calls. Her companion, Donovan Goodman, 33, faces charges including first-degree robbery, auto theft and fleeing a peace officer in connection with the January 30, 2023 incident.

The situation began when a deputy spotted a Ford F150 speeding and running a traffic light. The driver ignored the deputy’s request to pull over and instead drove dangerously into oncoming traffic. Other officers soon joined the pursuit. A bogus 911 call then came into authorities with the person identifying herself as Melissa and stating “that a vehicle had been carjacked and someone had been shot.”

After a continued vehicle chase and as officers prepared to stop the speeding vehicle, a small white dog was tossed out of the back window onto the road and in the path of oncoming traffic. The puppy rolled on the roadway several times and ran away.

After several arrests were made and one of the suspects was treated with Narcan for an overdose, officers searched for the puppy. He was later found in a snowbank and had been severely injured, but still alive.

Deputies quickly named the pit bull Tahoe because of the Chevy Tahoes they drive and took him to a vet where it was determined Tahoe had a broken leg and lacerations but would survive. Authorities say veterinarian costs have exceeded $15,000.

Tahoe is being cared for by a dog rescue and rehabilitation organization as he recovers from physical and emotional abuse,” the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office said in a statement Monday.

The defendants denied throwing the puppy from the truck, but do not remember what happened according to the police report. Gurneau is already on probation for a previous animal cruelty charge and did not appear in court on another case for auto theft.
