In Eureka, Illinois, the owners of the Razor Zone Salon are calling for action after their cat was taken by Woodford County Animal Control and immediately euthanized. The cat, named KiKi, brought lots of joy and comfort to the clients at the salon, and the staff referred to her as their therapy cat.

According to KiKi’s owner and the owner of the salon, KiKi dozed daily in her window hammock, often woke up to greet customers and had no desire to go outdoors. For five weeks, KiKi lived her feline dream – lots of food, lots of love, comfortable sleeping areas and lots of people to greet whenever the urge struck her fancy.

But then the curtain came down on KiKi. According to the CIProud.com, police arrived at the salon on March 23, along with Animal Control and seized KiKi, because a client stated she had been bitten and scratched by KiKi on March 21.

The Illinois Animal Control Act states an administrator is allowed to “seize a dog or cat and confine them under the observation of a veterinarian for 10 days from the date of the bite and shall continue until the animal has been examined and released from confinement.” Tragically, that isn’t what happened.

Eryn Pearson, the founder of the Cats of Woodford County Rescue stated that KiKi had been taken during business hours at the salon and euthanized immediately so she could be decapitated and sent to a lab to be tested for rabies. Pearson said the test came back negative.

In addition, there was allegedly no record of a person reporting to have been bitten by a cat to Woodland County Animal Control. KiKi already had one appointment to be fully vaccinated and spayed; her second appointment had been scheduled for April 17.

The women are now working together to help people understand their rights so that this never happens again. The case has been forwarded to the Woodford County State’s Attorney Office for review.

Rest in peace KiKi. We hope you get some justice.

  1. Dirty rats! Couldn’t follow the law. Poor little girl didn’t deserve losing her life. RIP KiKi you deserved better.

  2. I am sorry for Kiki’s family and for Kiki. It’s absolutely disgusting and horrible and heartbreaking what happened to this lovely cat and her family.

The officers who confiscated Kiki did NOT follow the procedure of 10 days quarantine and observation for confiscated “biting” animals. No record of any cat biting or scratching someone with animal control so why the hurry to euthanize Kiki???

I hope Kiki’s family can hire a top animal rights attorney and sue the animal control and police for this outrageous behavior and “bullies with badges” attitude…… no evidence whatsoever that this precious little treasure was a danger to anyone (veterinary observation for 10 days and a thorough veterinary examination would have been far more appropriate).

Kiki, I am very sorry for your murder. It was terrible that “bullies with badges” stole you from your family and home. You are loved and missed very greatly by your family. Kiki, I know that you are in Heaven. Please look for MacKitty and join his wonderful snuggle buddies group and RIP amongst loving friends.
