Shrimp and Bagel love each other, and their home is in Sherman Dale, Pennsylvania at the Here With Us Farm Sanctuary. What makes these two star worthy is their unique story; Shrimp is a rooster who was rescued just one day before he was slated to be euthanized and Basil is a one-legged, partially blind rescued chicken. The two love each other deeply.

Both Shrimp and Basil have been calling the sanctuary home for the last two years, but recently they have swiped right on their dating devices and found each other according to the sanctuary owner.

In October 2022, Basil developed an infection which led to having to have her leg amputated.

… Basil recently had her right leg amputated up to her knee, due to an infection. She is spending time in her wheelchair until she is all healed up and ready for a prosthetic. Basil will not leave her side. They love each other so much. he spends most of his day standing next to her, sharing her food and water, and honestly just looking at her and it’s the sweetest thing ever. Chickens, without a doubt, are capable of feeling and showing love. How anyone can think otherwise, and choose to eat these precious beings, I will never understand.

About the same time Basil had been undergoing surgery, Shrimp had been having some problems of his own. It seems as if Shrimp was way too easy-going, and other farm animals had been bullying him, so he had been brought inside of the barn for his own safety – and that’s where the heartfelt sparks lit up their home.

Amanda Clark, the sanctuary owner couldn’t help but notice how interested in each other the two had become, how Shrimp would dance in front of Basil and how the two would share their berries.

Since then, the two have closely bonded and even go to the veterinarian together. The two have become pets – no different than a cherished dog and cat, and we can’t think of a happier way to start your weekend than to post this adorable story.
