At the Mahoning County Dog Warden in Youngstown, Ohio, Scout’s photo staring out the window makes us sad wondering if he is wishing upon a star eagerly waiting for his wish to come true and finally find a loving, “furever” family soon.

Scout was found in the center of Poland in July 2022. He was turned in as a stray, and when he arrived at the shelter, he weighed 77 pounds, and was one happy pup. Unfortunately, Scout didn’t do well in the shelter environment and suffered from kennel stress. Friends Of Fido MCDP took him to the vet to make sure nothing was wrong physically, and when everything came back fine, the sweet guy was given some medication to help him cope with his anxiety. Who can blame him?

Scout is a good leash walker. He loves to be loved. In the shelter environment however, he is dog selective. (He is not a fan of most of the MALE dogs that he comes in contact with.)

Scout:

He is a big ole boy with a big ole bark…..but he is sweet! He doesn’t do well in his kennel with all of the noise and chaos. Thankfully we have finally been able to move him into a room of his own.

Scout is approx 3-4 yrs old and is a pit bull mix.

Dog friendly (better with females)

Cats unknown

Older respectful kids

Friends of Fido will cover the costs of training classes to an approved adopter.

Scout is quite the intelligent pooch, so be prepared to have some interesting and fun exchanges with him should you decide to meet this awesome fellow. This particular scene played out a few months ago; what do you think?

Last week he was helping me get dinner ready for the dogs. I fed him while he was on break.

He picked up his bowl and carried it past me to eat closer to me. Then he started pushing the bowl around trying to get all the pumpkin that had stuck to the edges so I had to help hold the bowl. (He only left a little trail of spilled food from carrying the bowl. He must have been practicing. )

Scout needs a hero. He is not happy at all here. The stress is getting to him. He is looking thinner and thinner. He used to he laid back. Now it is very difficult to get him past some of the other male dogs. He is not a fan.

And here is Scout today; still waiting. We know his story, and we ask that everyone share this boy’s plight. Share with family, friends and social media contacts. Somewhere out there is the “person” or the “family” that will make Scout’s “wishing upon a star” dream come true.

If you are interested in meeting him please email [email protected] to request an application. Once approved they will call you to set up a meet and greet.

Please help Scout’s story to go viral – surely someone will be there for him soon.
