In Cleveland, Texas, an innocent puppy had been spotted lying in a field on Sunday; tragically two other deceased dogs were found nearby. It was suspected the puppy may have been poisoned.

Despite numerous pleas on social media for help, no one stepped forward; that is until ThisIsHouston made the decision to be there for this innocent victim.

Their heartbreaking post on Facebook page described the puppy’s plight:

WE AREN’T SURE IF NICOLAS IS GOING TO SURVIVE, BUT WE’RE GIVING HIM A CHANCE AND THE STAFF WILL DO ALL THEY CAN FOR HIM. WE WEREN’T REALLY IN THE POSITION TO INTAKE ANOTHER DOG, BUT NOBODY ELSE WAS STEPPING UP AND HE’D BEEN LAYING THERE CRYING FOR SEVERAL HOURS.

Facebook

Hopes were slightly elevated on Monday morning after Nicolas survived the night at the emergency veterinarian hospital where he struggled to survive although he never regained consciousness. Still, there was hope.

Earlier this afternoon, Nicolas’ veterinarians confirmed he suffered from antifreeze toxicity.

they also said he needs dialysis but the closest place to offer that is in Louisiana. Anyone have insight/experience? He’s comatose currently and won’t improve unless we start dialysis. I realize we likely need to let him go but just wanted to see if anyone else experienced something like this in texas and had a positive story to share.

Nicolas has been set free. So sorry to say the “monsters win” stated one of the organization’s founders. So many people in Cleveland abandon their pets just to get new ones, fail to spay and neuter and treat these kind souls as if they are old shoes. Is it any wonder the heartbreaking cycle continues? Nicolas wasn’t the first dog to be tortured; why are there so few laws to protect these innocent pets?

Many thanks to all those who were rooting for Nicolas, to all those who offered to be with him in his final moments and to Maria Briones for being brave enough to say goodbye to him for all of us, especially right after getting off of work.

  1. We had our 2 elderly dogs (as well as 14 other neighbors’ dogs and cats) poisoned by a sick POS who soaked bread and biscuits in antifreeze and tossed them over yard fences. Sadly there were only deaths from this poisoning……. The police were involved and after we had meat studded with rat poison pellets tossed into our backyard, we moved.

Some individuals just hate animals and are very cruel, angry POS’s who don’t have a shred of compassion for anyone else…… let’s hope they never “graduate” to people during their awful lives……. Murdering people’s furbabies is truly horrible enough……. They are lost, sick souls who are condemned to burn in Hell forever for their cruelty……..

  2. We hope these precious little puppies meetup with MacKitty in Heaven and join his wonderful snuggle buddies group. RIP amongst loving friends furever………
