Barely over a week ago, Stray Rescue of St. Louis,  received a plea for rescue after a heartbreaking photo of a dog in desperate need broke hearts. It had been a Good Samaritan who made the call to the non profit organization hoping someone could help.

No one knew how long the dog dubbed Jessie, by her rescuers, had been living on the streets and scavenging for food; barely staying alive. Jessie was so badly injured she had to be carried into the veterinarian hospital. Staff and volunteers could smell the infection in the car, and her wounds were not fresh. She was extremely swollen; her eye was very infected, her head had a deep wound, and her tongue hung out of her mouth.

And as she started to feel better, there were already clues; Jesse had captured the hearts of the entire staff at the hospital:

THIS IS THE SWEETEST LITTLE GIRL. SHE’S TINY, JUST OVER 20 POUNDS AND NOT EVEN A YEAR OLD. HER SWELLING HAS GONE DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY, AND JUST WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE OFFER HER A STUFFED BABY TO CUDDLE WITH.

And of course, not to keep readers in suspense as to Jessie’s progress, we have an awesome update from Stray Rescue of St. Louis:

welcome home jessie

We brought Jessie home today. We can never thank her doctors and nurses enough for caring for her and getting her to this point with around the clock care. Today she has nothing to do but get familiar with us and rest. everyone that meets her says, ‘oh she’s sooo little!’

Imagine how good it must have felt as Jessie spent some time in the sunshine rolling around on her back? Imagine how she feels when she receives nothing but praises and loving hugs?

Many thanks everyone who has helped with her needs. Because of the support, she has been able to remain at the hospital and receive the emergency care she needed.

Her surgeries will soon be scheduled, but for now she gets to rest at her specially chosen foster home. Updates coming soon.

What could be better than a tragic beginning turning into a wonderful story of love and healing?
