The Pennsylvania SPCA is asking for the public’s help finding the person(s) responsible for shooting a dog in the Overbrook neighborhood of Philadelphia on Monday night.
An officer with ACCT Philly arrived at the 1200 block of South 54th Street responding to a report of a dog supposedly hit by a vehicle. When the dog arrived at the emergency veterinarian hospital, it was discovered she had instead, been shot several times.
The dog is believed to have been shot in the street and was able to crawl onto a porch of a nearby home. A Good Samaritan stepped outside, found the dog on the step and quickly called for help. She has been named Alexia and sustained injuries to her muzzle and shoulder areas; the damage to her leg is beyond repair.
Alexia remained at Philadelphia Animal Specialty and Emergency Care, and today was transferred to the Pennsylvania’s headquarters where she is scheduled to undergo surgery to amputate her front leg.
After being shot in the street last night, Alexia literally dragged herself up the steps of a Good Samaritan’s home. She was desperately seeking help.
Today, this precious soul is with us, receiving the lifesaving care she needs.
She is still in extremely critical condition

The Pennsylvania SPCA Animal Law Enforcement team is investigating and is asking the public if they know the dog’s identity or who owns her or is responsible for this heinous act. Anyone with information is asked to contact the cruelty division at 866.601.7722 or [email protected].
“This act of cruelty is especially heartbreaking not only for its nature, but because of this brave animal’s fight to survive,” said Julie Klim, CEO of the Pennsylvania SPCA. “She was left in the street to die, but was able to drag herself up the steps next to the door of a Good Samaritan and in her own way, ask for help.
