Staff members from the Pickens County Humane Society in Liberty, South Carolina, were shocked to find a dog left abandoned in a sealed box on August 15 behind the rescue. The young Chihuahua mix, now named Clover, had been locked in a closed plastic container with no air holes in the 90 degree oppressive heat; even though the rescue had been open and someone could have easily walked in to surrender their dog.

Abandonment is illegal!

It’s a shame that this poor pup who is covered in fleas & sores, super skinny & hungry was left in a CLOSED container, with no air, OUTSIDE our facilities, DURING BUSINESS HOURS!

Clover is settling in & receiving the love & care he needs until his FUR-EVER family is found!

Clover is thought to be about two to three years of age. After a full veterinary examination, she was deemed to be healthy although she was extremely skinny and was full of fleas and irritating skin dermatitis as a result. Clover isn’t available for adoption yet, but once she gains weight and her skin isn’t so sore, she will be ready to find her forever family.

It is illegal to abandon a pet, and even though no one knows the reason why her owners abandoned her, the rescue organization was open, and surely in the name of compassion and decency, Clover’s family could have done better.

We’re working on getting him happy and healthier, so we’re limiting his interaction to staff only until he’s available for adoption, but feel free to complete a volunteer application, we have plenty of others that would love the attention in the meantime.

What if Clover had not been found when she was? She easily could have died from the intense heat of the day locked up in a plastic container with not one air hole. When Clover was found, he had already been heavily panting.

we wanted to bring awareness that abandonment is illegal and is dangerous. There are proper procedures and avenues to relinquisn your pet.

We strongly suggest the previous owners of Clover choose a stuffed toy to call their own instead of torturing another dog.
