It had been at the end of May when the Humane Society of Lebanon County (HSLC) in Pennsylvania, received an urgent call from local police and fire rescue about a dog in a storm drain. The dog appeared deceased at first glance but lifted his head slowly when the drain grate was removed. A volunteer and a staff member immediately went to the scene knowing medical care would most likely be needed; it had been a heartbreaking sight. The skinny dog had been curled up into a ball and was definitely close to death.

The pup was carefully retrieved, loaded and transported to an emergency vet for immediate medical care. It wasn’t long before the dog’s owner was found; Buddy, the 15-year-old dog, had been missing for three weeks.

After returning to the HSLC, we made attempts to reunite Buddy with his owner. We tried and tried. We are not going in detail due to the focus of the story is BUDDY… And Getting what he needs and it’s about him.

For three days, Buddy was given emergency life-saving care. His condition slowly started to improve. And yes, Buddy has made remarkable progress, but he’s an older guy with follow-up medical appointments, ultrasounds, x-rays and an ophthalmologist appointment. In addition, due to Buddy’s age, he can’t be sedated, so finding a loving and patient foster home would be the best solution for Buddy. The shelter will continue to cover all of his medical care as well as his food and supplements.

Buddy doesn’t seem to mind cats and does best with calmer dogs.

Feeling much better everyone 😉
