At the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Indiana, Waylon had been more than ready for his own home. For more than 600 days, the seven-year-old pit bull mix waited for his family to find him. He was surrendered by his previous owners who were no longer able to care for him, and since then the pup with “the zest for life” had been keeping his paws crossed hoping for a home of his own.

Waylon loves to be with people and loves to cuddle up on the couch, hop in the car and walk around the park; taking in the smells and companionship of a loving human.

Waylon had been waiting 600 days…

600 days without someone to love

600 lonely nights spent in the shelter

600 days of people passing by and choosing another dog over him

Waylon needed an adult only home with no cats or small dogs. He loves treats, snuggles and adventures.

Eager to help Waylon find his home, volunteers and staff fashioned a photo shoot of adorable pictures, great stories and more information to make this dog break away from the crowds of dogs all needing homes. And wherever Waylon went, accompanied by the shelter’s amazing staff, the dog’s story went viral with the “Where’s Waylon?” cue. Cutout posters of Waylon graced the entrances of local establishments, and his presence made headlines. “Where’s Waylon?”

And then it happened! Just when you think this sweet boy would never find his own family, social media sparked its amazing abilities and helped to steer a loving couple to Waylon.

On November 15, the non profit animal welfare organization posted a photo of Waylon and an adored volunteer and staff member – their collective last days.

Live well you two – and have happy lives.
