Puyallup, WA – A Washington state woman is devastated, and angry, following the death of her puppy who was electrocuted at a holiday light show in Puyallup. On Sunday, Facebook user Vyctoria Rindal recounted how her nine-month-old rescue pup, Maverick, died at the Washington State Fairgrounds.

In a public Facebook post, Maverick’s owner writes:

Yesterday I brought my dog, Maverick, to the Washington State Fair to see their Christmas lights. Everything was going good until we went towards this abominable snowman blow up. My friend Casey felt several shocks go through her legs and we instantly tried to move Maverick.

But it was too late. Maverick had already dropped to the ground, “yelping and convulsing” as the current raced through his body. Medics responded and attempted to save Maverick’s life, but after several minutes had passed, he was pronounced dead.

Maverick’s heartbroken guardian explained what the medics and staff discovered after investigating the deadly incident, writing:

The medics and staff found that there was a live wire underground that caused him to be electrocuted. The fair should’ve done their due diligence in making sure all areas were safe and secure before opening their event to the public, this could’ve been someone’s child or loved one and instead it took my 9 month old pup losing his life for them to even know that that was an issue present in their facility.

Aside from an apology, there apparently are no repercussions for Maverick’s electrocution. Rindal said:

Yesterday was supposed to be a fun night for all of us… this shouldn’t have happened and it did. Words can’t begin to describe the brokenness, helplessness, anger and sadness I feel.
