A man who was employed by a stable in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, was fired and charged after video captured him repeatedly whipping a tethered horse. The incident took place at Goldrush Stables and it went viral on social media before the stable owners decided to fire the employee, who is identified as David Allen Whaley.

As reported by WYMT News, Whaley was initially only reprimanded by the stable owner, Peggy Wilson, but he was fired after the video went viral on social media platforms. Former employee, Kaylee Guinn, used social media in an attempt to shed light on what Whaley was doing to the horses.

Guinn explained to the news agency why the video was released on social media:

“We did try to keep it out of the public eye. We tried to make this a personal issue between the employees and owners of the stable but after our efforts failed while we were still there once we were relieved we had to step out and speak up,”

Pigeon Forge Police arrested Whaley on a charge of animal cruelty. The horse that was whipped has been examined and does not appear to have any injuries.

  1. Whipping a horse that people ride can be dangerous. This abuse makes a horse afraid of people and it can buck or bolt when someone tries to ride. Poor horse is now traumatized and it’ll take a lot of love and kindness to help him/her not be afraid again. What a jerk, and the owners too by not firing him when they first learned what he did, I cannot believe they were going to keep him on the job! That would have terrorized this poor horse to see him every day.
