A rescue pooch was left “traumatized” after having been left stranded in the lost luggage section of Toronto Pearson International Airport for more than 21 hours.

According to CTV News, Jena Butts, who adopted the dog named Winston in the Dominican Republic, brought him back to Canada with her own dog. She stated the airport staff told her to go home after Winston didn’t arrive at the luggage terminal. Her own dog did come out a half-hour later. No one seemed to want to help Jena or Winston and basically dismissed her anger and frustration about her missing dog.

After almost 21 hours, Winston was found; the poor pup had been left in his crate in a corner of the airport with lost baggage. An agent had freed the urine covered Winston from his crate and gave him water; the poor dog was so “traumatized.”

Air Transat, who arranged the dog’s travel has since apologized. Passengers have become so frustrated and angry over delayed and canceled flights as well as mountains of luggage all over the airport. Butts will not be traveling with dogs again.

“While there were reasons for the service failure that left you wondering about the whereabouts of your treasured pet, we can only assure you that we will take the necessary steps to ensure no other pet owner has to experience a similar situation. You entrusted them with your precious cargo and regrettably, we let you down.”
