Soon Vivian will be a beautiful puppy, but the small dog’s start at life didn’t seem to be going so well until a Humane Law and Rescue Officer from the Louisiana SPCA in New Orleans came to her rescue. The scared, confused and sick puppy was found hiding behind an air conditioning unit on Friday.
The animal cruelty officer wasted no time and brought the puppy to the shelter for the urgent veterinarian care she needed. The shelter assessed her skin condition and diagnosed her with a serious case of demodex mange. The condition is commonly caused by a parasite that burrows under the hair follicles of dogs and develops when a dog has an immature immune system – where the number of skin mites multiply quickly.
Please welcome Vivian to the Louisiana SPCA, where her treatments for demodex have started. The two-month-old puppy has also been placed on a specific diet in order to help her gain weight. She is currently being cared for at a foster family who have been providing her with the medications she needs.
