Neglected dogs who were living with a cruel owner in conditions described as “horrific,” are getting a second chance at life with a rescue group in Roanoke, Virginia. On Monday, Angels of Assisi posted photos of one of the malnourished dogs, explaining the condition of Rowger, the dog in the worst condition:

He has a bad skin infection and likely demodectic mange. Rowger is extremely malnourished, so he has been put on a strict feeding regimen to help him gain weight.

The other two rescued dogs, Baby and Bandit, have already been placed in foster homes. As for Rowger, the animal welfare agency is certain that his eyes will be filled with hope now that he is safe. The dogs’ owner is facing animal cruelty charges – the name has not been released publicly.

When Rowger is feeling better, he will need a new family. The rescue group writes:

If you think you can provide this sweet boy with a loving home, please email our adoption coordinators at [email protected].

Donations for ongoing veterinary care can be made to the rescue group at this link to Facebook.
