At the Villalobos Rescue Center -Life 4 Paws in Clairborne on Sunday morning, a bittersweet story developed as shelter volunteer, Lizzy spotted a man sitting in the front of the rescue building with a skinny puppy. Since the organization is “beyond” full with dogs, Lizzy prepared herself to give the man the “speech.”

Where everyday can teach us a new lesson and perspective, this morning was not to be different. The man, a teacher at a local New Orleans school, had found the puppy as a stray and took him home to care for him. Unfortunately, the landlord where the teacher lived found out; no pets were allowed.

And so the next day, the teacher arrived at Villalobos Rescue Center with the puppy and waited until someone arrived. As Lizzy listened to the man’s story, she realized this wasn’t a story of someone surrendering their puppy because he just didn’t have time, but one of an emotional and compassionate moment of renewed faith in humanity.

…We assured the Good Samaritan teacher that the pup was in good hands. But then he had one last request … to say ‘good bye.’ Hearts melted, tears fell and a little scraggly tail went ‘thumpity, thump, thump.

And in a city so often filled with crime and inhumanity, a teacher proudly stands in front of a classroom and rest assured, he is teaching kindness, generosity and using knowledge as his weapon of choice.

Honoring this teacher, the puppy has been named Scholar.

Please make a donation in honor of this teacher and to help all of the animals at the VRC.

  1. I am very impressed with this teacher. I think he’s absolutely wonderful to have saved this precious little treasure.

I know how hard it is to give up a beloved family member but sometimes it’s the best choice for them……. One has to look beyond themselves and think of the quality of life for their precious treasure.

We are donating to the Scholar fund. We hope Scholar is rehomed ASAP into a loving furever family who will treat him as a beloved family member for his entire life.
