In Davie, Florida, a surveillance video showing a thin, blond-haired man randomly shooting a dog at the Aycock Veterinary Clinic on Friday afternoon, has resulted in the arrest of Chayse Billie. According to a report on Tuesday evening by Davie Police, Billie, 21 faces charges of felony aggravated animal cruelty. He was located with the help of the Seminole Police Department.
According to NbcMiami, Billie is alleged to have fired seven shots directly into the locked shelter cage of Daniel Perez’ dog named Matilda. She was the only dog there during the shooting, and it is believed to have been a random crime of animal cruelty. Matilda was killed.
Security footage showed a shooter first taking videos and photos. When he looked up and seemed to have noticed the surveillance cameras, the suspect covered his head with his hood before shooting the dog.
“He took pictures, video, started teasing the dog by kicking the fence, then shot her three times,” Perez said adding, “I might understand if she just jumped the fence and attacked somebody, maybe jumped the fence and crossed the street and somebody hit her with the car. I understand that, but not this. She could not defend herself.”

Matilda, a Labrador retriever and pointer mix, had been a therapy dog for her human. Perez is an emergency medical technician for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and relied on Matilda to help with his bouts of depression from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his past combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Perez would drop Matilda off at the clinic before it opened before leaving for work. An hour later, the staff would arrive and bring seven-year-old Matilda inside.
Billie remains in the Broward County Jail in lieu of a $2,500 bond.
Rest in peace Matilda. You will be missed.
