On Friday, September 17, 2021, a staff member from the Kentucky Humane Society found a cardboard box with “FOUND HELP ME written on the top near the trash bin. The box had been taped shut with air holes punched in, and when Warren opened the box he was brought to tears. An emaciated and miserable looking puppy stared up at him.
The six to eight-month-old puppy was rushed inside where he was examined. His inflamed skin was raw and swollen from infection; he was missing almost all of his fur, and he was bloody from the sores that covered his thin body. In addition, he was so weak from demodectic mange and malnutrition, he wasn’t able to stand on his own. Weighing only 15 pounds, where the typical weight for a dog of his age and breed should have been at least 25 pounds, and although he has adult teeth, his growth has likely been stunted due to malnutrition.
Check out his video:
“While photos give you an idea of the horrendous shape he’s in, we wanted to share with you a video of him too.”KHS Facebook
And if this poor puppy, now named Liam, luck could be any worse, on Tuesday morning he tested positive for parvovirus. He has been rushed to the veterinary hospital where he is now receiving 24/7 care in their quarantine ward. Liam likely had already been exposed to parvo, and after six to 10 days, the symptoms have now appeared.
“Given that Liam’s immune system is already so compromised from demodectic mange and poor nutrition, we are not sure if Liam has the strength to pull through. Please keep Liam – an Irish name that means ‘guardian’ in your thoughts and prayers.”KHS Facebook
Video surveillance cameras picked up a man fleeing the area about 12:30 a.m.
