Woman who stole truck and left dog to die from heat sentenced to 12 years in prison

In Baton Rouge, Louisiana a woman who stole a man’s truck and left his dog in the vehicle to die of the heat, was sentenced on Thursday to 12 years in prison.

According to The Advocate, Leslie Aguillard, 31, pleaded guilty to carjacking, aggravated animal cruelty and aggravated second-degree battery in connection to the July 2019 incident. Aguillar had stolen the truck belonging to David Mohr, which had been parked with the engine running and the air-conditioning on, outside of a doughnut shot. Mohr’s dog, Roleaux, a Labrador and Weimaraner mix,  had been inside of the vehicle.

As Mohr tried to stop the woman from stealing his truck, Aguillar tried to run him over twice. She later abandoned the truck and left Roleaux inside – the dog died from the heat.

In court, Aguillar apologized to Mohr and said she had been on drugs and did not mean to let the dog die.
