A Texas man has been arrested after his young German shepherd got tangled on a tether and died from heat exhaustion. The El Paso Police Department issued a release about the crime, stating:
24–year old Miguel Angel Valencia was arrested yesterday and charged with Cruelty to Animals. Valencia’s was the second arrest made yesterday in a trend the El Paso Police Department’s Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit has recently seen.
According to the release, Valencia is responsible for the death of his one-year-old German shepherd, Eddie, whose tether got tangled around a clothesline police, causing the dog to become trapped. Eddie was found deceased on July 7 – he found laying in the “direct sun.”
The Department stated:
Eddie did not have access to shade or water. Valencia had been previously cited by Animal Services for failure to provide shade/shelter, animal neglect and unlawful restraint of an animal. An examination by a veterinarian determined Eddie likely died of heat stroke and dehydration.
Valencia was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $5000 bond.
