Severely injured bait dog slowly recovering in South Florida

A severely injured bait dog, used for illegal dog fighting in the Miami area, is slowly recovering from his near death situation; all thanks to skilled and compassionate veterinarians and a South Florida rescue group.

Two weeks ago, Elijah was found in Hialeah, and 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades stepped up to help. When rushed to the BluePearl Pet Hospital, doctors immediately began life-saving treatment. The dog received intravenous fluids, antibiotics and underwent medical procedures to get rid of the maggots ravaging the open sores all over his body.

It is believed Elijah had been tossed away after he was no longer useful as a bait dog. These are the innocent victims used to test a fighting dog’s instincts or to train a dog to fight in the ring.

Elijah’s next surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. We are all keeping him in our thoughts and prayers.
