On Tuesday morning, a Good Samaritan contacted the BelAire Kansas Police Department about an injured dog found lying in a ditch along a rural Wichita road. The abandoned dog suffered from shock, dehydration and suffered from severe puncture and laceration wounds to his head, face and muzzle.
Beauties and Beasts, Inc. committed to helping the dog they named Steele.
“The poor guy was found dumped this morning in a ditch on 53rd St. N. between Rock Road and Webb Road here in Bel Aire. With the help of Heartland Animal Hospital and Sedgwick County Animal Control, the little guy was stabilized and taken by Animal Control to a vet for treatment of injuries. Doesn’t this just break your heart? At this point we do not know where he came from and how he sustained his injuries. Anyone with information please come forward and contact the Police Department at 316-744-6000 or comment on this post,” the police department posted on their Facebook page.
By Wednesday evening, Steele’s condition had worsened. His extensive wounds and infections caused his entire body to go septic – his kidneys and liver were shutting down. Dr. Lofgreen and the staff at the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita did everything possible to save Steele’s life. Tragically, the damage was already done.
“Our hearts shattered at 9:03 pm 10/16 when Steele left for heaven on his own. Run free sweet boy. Your life mattered and we all love you.”
Rest in peace Steele.
