In Lee County, Florida, a teenager was arrested on Monday in connection to the aggravated animal abuse of K-9 Deputy Chance. In late February, the dog, a male Florida Cur, was found roaming through backyards with his mouth taped shut.
Oscar Lee Thompson III, 18, is currently being held at the Lee County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office were able to pull DNA and fingerprints off the electrical tape and matched results to Thompson. A press conference was held on Monday to announce the arrest – the dog, now dubbed Deputy Chance attended.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office social media page, the dog had been panting and drooling and on the verge of suffocating when discovered. He was also dehydrated, appeared malnourished and had been bleeding from wounds on his left leg and chest.
The dog was nursed back to health and has become part of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy. His name is Deputy Chance, and he acts as a “Spokes-Dog” for the organization. He has attended ribbon cutting ceremonies and community events.
This is one lucky, loved dog. Thanks to everyone who helped and especially our heroes at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office who risk their own lives everyday to keep all of us safe.
