Three children accused of beating and trying to drown a puppy

In Carbon Hill, Alabama, three children aged 12, 13, and 17 have been accused of stealing  and abusing a three-month-old puppy. On June 27, the juveniles were reported to have beaten the puppy and then attempted to drown it. Although the puppy named Jocko was rescued, he succumbed to his injuries a few days later and died.

According to the Mountain Eagle, Police Chief Jason Hare released a statement about the disturbing event:

“The Carbon Hill Police Department has arrested three juveniles in a cruelty to animals case where a dog was beaten and a drowning was attempted (with the dog as the victim). The dog was rescued but died at a later date. The Carbon Hill Police Department and the citizens of Carbon Hill will not tolerate this type of behavior. If anyone chooses to participate in this type of behavior, they will be charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Authorities state there was no motive for the crime nor did the youths know the dog’s owner. The kids allegedly stole the puppy from the backyard of a nearby home after they broke through a fence. They then brought the pup to the Carbon Hill pool where lifeguards told them to return the puppy back home.

“Then they proceeded to the creek behind the swimming pool, and that is where they beat the dog and tried to drown the dog,” Chief Hare stated. “What happened was the lifeguards heard the dog screaming, so they went down there to check it out to see what was going on. As they were walking down, I guess the kids heard them coming and took off running. They left the dog wrapped in a shirt. The dog was alive, but the dog passed away a couple of days later.”

The juveniles were taken to the Walker County Juvenile Detention Center; one teen has been charged with theft of property and the other two have been charged with animal cruelty.

Treat them all as adults, they knew what they were doing and deserve to pay for it. Jail time for all three, maybe that would scare them straight!

I’m wondering if they stole the puppy because they really wanted it, but then panicked and worried they’d be caught, so they tried to get rid of the “evidence”. I hope the three rot in hell, though. Sociopaths, all three of them, and there is no cure for that.

Shitz-n-giggles,”kids”? May you suffer similar fates, in prison!

And hey – owner? WTF were you THINKING, leaving this innocent outside, unattended??? I don’t CARE if it WAS in your back yard, YOU HAVE TO BE CONSTANTLY VIGILANT TO PROTECT THOSE IN YOUR CHARGE – FOOL!

    Rest-in-peace, precious little soul

The parents of these kids should also be charged since they are legally responsible for them.To have this much cruelty inside of them to do something like this to a 3 month old puppy, is horrendous. To break into someones yard/fence to steal this poor puppy shows premeditation on their part.Parents should pay all costs for this puppy and whatever if any, initial costs for the puppy. as well as repairing the fence. These so-called “kids” should have months of community service dealing with abused and unwanted animals and be responsible (under supervision) to care for them. Maybe some form of empathy might emerge from them. RIP poor puppy, know that you were loved. Owners, never leave your pet unsupervised in your backyard whether fenced in or not. This could happen to your pet.

Charge these POS as adults and then lock them in jail and throw away the key. Society is not safe with these makings of serial killers running loose. RIP Jocko, you’re free now.

They knew they were doing something evil, but they continued to do it anyway. The scumbags need to be treated as ADULTS. Their parents also need to be looked at, since you have to wonder what kind of trash raises kids like them.

These aren’t “children” they are the swans of the devil. Steal someone’s puppy and do this to it, is unforgivable. I hope their parents are very proud of their “little darlings”. They need to be locked away before they start on humans! Rest in peace Jocko, your life was worth much more than this.my condolences to Jocko’s family.

I live in Mississippi, and if Alabama’s animal cruelty laws are anything like ours these kids will get a slap on the wrist. Period. When I moved here from California I was shocked at how animals were treated (that was over 30 years ago) and it hasn’t gotten much better in all the time I’ve lived here.

Laws concerning “children” in any state are too lax. A 17 year old should be treated like an adult and 12 & 13 year olds are certainly old enough to know right from wrong. They will be released to their “parents” maybe ordered to get counseling (I have yet to see that work,) and be back on the streets ready to hurt and terrorize some other pet or even human in no time. It’s appalling to see the disregard for others’ pets and property as well as life that is being displayed in this day and age by some of our youth. It’s getting to be a big problem.

These are NOT children! They are nothing more than EVIL SICKO MONSTERS! I’m so glad they were caught and oh how I hope and pray they are severly punished because they will move on to human victims next! I hope they will be treated like the pariahs that they are by the entire community in which they live

Good luck Alabama – you now have three serial killers in training – if they aren’t stopped now, they will continue on the same path and continue to abuse more innocent animals. These little monsters are old enough to know what they were doing – I have zero empathy for them and would not care one bit if they all had fatal accidents in the near future.

This turns my stomach to no end!! I would love to be a judge because they would get the same thing done to them that they did to that poor puppy!! An eye for an eye, that’s the way it should be!!! Where the hell are their parents? what do they think about what their scumbag sons did to that puppy? I hope and pray Alabama that your Justice System doesn’t give them a slap on the wrist and sent home…Lock their sorry asses up for at least 20 yrs…sounds good to me!!! RIP little puppy..I hope and pray that you did not die in vain….

This could not have been a surprise to their parents…. they had to have known they had little monsters on their hands. The parents should also be held responsible for this tragedy! This is insane that 3 kids so young could be so horribly evil.

At 17 it is hardly fair to describe the participant as a “child’. The poor little puppy, such a shame that the life guards did not respond immediately, but of course they didn’t realize that these little creeps & monsters had torture and murder on their minds. Sentence, them to the maximum, don’t indulge or “understand’ them- give them counseling-sure but make sure that they are punished, again that poor little puppy. the fear and panic it must have experienced is heart breaking.

17 is not a child, and old enough to know better and was probably the instigator for the other two! Counseling won’t do any good for this bunch, we will be seeing them again along the road of despicable acts. A 12 and 13 year old with any compassion at all should have refused to go along with what the 17 year old was proposing and gone home and told someone!

These teens knew exactly what they were doing to this innocent puppy. They need to be removed from their homes and placed in long-term boot camps. The fact that they would steal a puppy shows that this is not the first time they have tortured for pleasure. These are some sick kids!!

This is a situation that calls for not only the kids to be severely punished, but the parents, as well. I wholeheartedly believe that if a parent faced punishment for their children’s behavior, there would be less children getting in trouble and more well behaved children in society. I hope the Judge sentences hard on all 3 and the parents. RIP little puppy.
