It was a disturbing video that went viral on February 17, showing a German shepherd being dragged behind a motorized scooter in Mission, Texas. Mario Cardona stated on the video, that the dog belonged to him and for people not to worry after an eyewitness told him to stop abusing the dog.
“I turn around. I see him dragging his dog from the middle of street all the way to second drive way. I’m out of my car yelling at him, asking him ‘what are you doing? What’s wrong with you?’ And he just keeps telling me to mind my own business,” stated his neighbor Melissa Torres. “It’s his dog and he can do whatever he wants.”
On Tuesday, the 10-month-old puppy named G2 was adopted by Father Roy Snipes of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission according to RgvProudNews. Father Roy plans to put some weight on the healthy but rather skinny pooch who will also join another dog at the church.
As for the horrible abuse G2 had to endure, it’s all in the past. Mario Cardona was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. G2 was removed from the home and temporarily placed at Mission Animal Control. Last Friday, Municipal Court Judge Horacio Pena Jr. told Cardona, 59, the dog would no longer live with him – calling the video “horrendous.” During the court hearing, Cardona’s wife told the judge G2 was exclusively her pet, and she had no idea her husband, who suffers from PTSD and depression, had taken the dog. Shelter staff also told the judge the dog was underweight. Rosa Maria Cardona said the other dogs in the home ate her food. Cardona also stated she did not have the money to get her dog the required vaccinations. Mario remains in jail.
