Meet Freddie Bush. Former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush adopted the adorable little puppy on Election Day. And if that doesn’t brighten up the tumultuous drama revving at high speed through social media, even better that puppy Freddie Bush is a rescue pooch.

The former president shared the news on his Instagram account and Facebook, stating the family’s cats, Bob and Bernadette, are already getting along with the little guy.

@laurawbush and I are thrilled to introduce the newest member of our family, Freddy Bush. We visited the @spcatexas‘ Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center last Tuesday to thank them for their great work – and came home with a puppy. We already love him, and even our cats Bob and Bernadette are finding Freddy’s charm futile to resist. If you could use a little extra joy in your life, consider adopting a pet from an animal shelter or rescue group.”

Always animal lovers, while in the White House, the Bushes had three dogs; Spot, an English Springer Spaniel and two Scottish terriers, Barney and Miss Beazley. Spot died in 2004, Barney died in 2013 and Miss Beazley died in 2014.

For all animal lovers, check out Freddie Bush’s photo. It makes no difference if you voted for President George W. Bush – his heart is in the right place. Congratulations President and first Lady Laura.

  1. MAYBE Former President Bush and Lady would be interested in BECOMING INVOLVED in helping TEXAS get it together in HAVING a MORE SUCCESSFUL RESCUE PROGRAM with less EUTHANASIA!!! HIS & HER SUPPORT could do WONDERS for the ANIMALS in the STATE OF TEXAS!!!

  2. It means a lot when someone who’s high profile adopts a puppy or kitten, and who can be more high profile than a former president? It honestly surprises me that the Bushes, who are great dog lovers, were without a dog so long, though I know they loved theirs so very much (like we all do) and it’s often hard to bring another one into the home. It sounds like what started out as the kind of visit you would expect them to make as the animal lovers they are turned into the ‘the right dog found them’ kind, which is WONDERFUL!!!! Congratulations to all of the Bushes, especially Freddie!
