Owner denies beating his dog despite viral video

In Gulfport, Mississippi, a viral video of a man seemingly appearing to be beating his dog and captured on video has led to a charge of animal cruelty. Dog owner, Billy Swain however denies beating his dog even though the video may show otherwise.

According to WloxNews, Swain’s defense is that he was disciplining his dog by hitting the seat next to him in the truck. billy-swain-2

“It looks bad, really it does, but I didn’t hit my dog,” Swain told news reporters. ‘Me and him live together. He wakes me up every morning in the day light. He throws his feet up and licks me, and we get up and start our day together’.”

According to the surveillance video recorded on Saturday, at the home of Billy Swain’s daughter-in-law, Reaghan Swain, a man identified as Billy Swain can be seen putting his one-year-old dog Albert into the cab of his truck. Reaghan’s 11-year-old son had asked his grandfather to put the dog inside of the truck as the weather had been too cold for Albert to ride in the open back.  Billy then is seen walking around to the other side of the truck, opening the door on the driver side and appears to repeatedly beat something inside of the truck. He then gets into the truck and slams an object down – reported to have been a flashlight.

Although the video does not show Billy Swain explicitly beating Albert, the child ran into his home crying telling his mother he thought his grandfather had killed the dog. And that’s when Reaghan called police. A followup visit to Billy Swain’s home shows the dog to be uninjured. The dog has not been removed from the home.

Biloxi Police Department posted on their Facebook page that Billy Swain has been charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. He was released and is scheduled to appear in court on February 6.

Tortured dog and cat living in filth saved by NY rescue org

In another unplanned emergency for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, a tortured dog and cat living in unfathomable filth and neglect were saved from their inhumane suffering on Tuesday afternoon in an abandoned apartment in New York City. Reggie, a friendly dog and Sylvester the cat had been isolated from the world and forced to live in their own feces and urine while they slowly starved to death.jackie-o-tuesday-2

According to neighbors, Reggie’s owner would frequently hit the dog so brutally, they could hear him cry out in pain, but that was before he abandoned them without notice nor with any food or water. And then came the good news. On Monday evening, the person who abused Reggie and Sylvester was arrested. The two had a chance – Rescue Dogs Rock NYC came to their aid when neighbors in the building were finally able to reach out for help.

Reggie is extremely weak and emaciated; his ravaged body is not much more than a skeleton covered with a light black and white coat. He can barely walk and the cuts, gashes and scrapes all over his body most likely were a result of the multiple beatings he endured which had been regularly inflicted by his owner. Sylvester seems to have fared better, but his physical and emotional condition has yet to be evaluated.

The pair are now at Rescue Dogs Rock NYC’s partner veterinarian in New York City and are getting the best of care.

“All we ask is that you help by donating to their medical care,” stated the organization’s co-founder Stacey Silverstein to the group’s Facebook page. “The financial drain on the rescue is staggering, with the amount of critically injured dogs we have taken in these last weeks. We find that holiday time is the absolute worst time for the homeless dogs across the country. If there were ever a time to foster a homeless dog now is the time.”jackie-o-tuesday-3

Hero dog saves family from fire

A dog in Midlothian, Virginia, is being hailed a hero for saving his family from a potentially deadly fire. The dog, a three-year-old German shepherd named “Zeus,” was up with his family after midnight on Monday when he began to bark and growl.

Hero dog Zeus

Owner Jim Ludwig told WTVR News, “My wife looked outside and she said she could hear something was going on in the yard and there was a lot of light outside.” He described the terrifying scene, “When I stepped out on the back porch I could see the chimney was completely on fire fire was extending up the side of the house and up the roof line.”

If not for Zeus’ help, the four children in the household, who were sleeping upstairs not far from the chimney, quite likely could have perished in the blaze. Thanks to the heroic dog’s efforts, everyone made it out unharmed.

A fundraiser has been set up to help the displaced family get back on their feet. Click here to read more.

No one to claim senior dog left at busy animal control agency

No one has claimed senior dog at animal control
Spread the love

A senior dog is waiting to be saved from a busy, open intake animal control agency in Los Angeles County, California. The 10-year-old dog, named “Isis,” has been at the Lancaster shelter since November 15…in the nearly one month’s time that has passed, nobody has come forward to claim her as their own.

Being held at a noisy, unfamiliar animal control agency is tough on the strongest of dogs…add in age and age-related issues (arthritis and more) and the situation becomes all the more difficult.

Isis could use the help of strangers to help her find somewhere safe to go. Please take a moment to network this senior dog’s adoption information. After all of the time that has passed, it is unlikely that her owner will show up to claim (and save) her.

Update on puppy who disappeared when truck was stolen

Puppy disappeared when truck was stolen

Earlier this month, a four-month-old puppy named “Tater” disappeared when his owner’s truck was stolen from a parking lot in Broomfield, Colorado. The chocolate Labrador retriever was inside of Richard Ivy’s Ford F-350, which was parked at the Benihana restaurant near Flatirons Crossing, at the time of the theft.

According to Monday’s Denver Channel, Tater is safely back at home. The puppy’s return is a bit of a mystery – someone dropped him off at Ivy’s mother’s home. How that person, whose identity is unknown, knew her address is also a mystery.

The stolen truck was also recovered near 112th and Reed – the tires and the license plate had been changed out and there was some damage.

Ivy isn’t concerned about the truck, or the damage – all he had hoped for was the safe return of his stolen puppy. The family thanked those who tried to help recover Tater:

We can’t thank each and every one of you enough for all your positive thoughts and well wishes, sharing our story and all of your concern for Tater’s safe return home.

Vet who posed with lion he killed as trophy dies while hunting

An Italian veterinarian who was fired from his job as director of a kennel, after killing a lion and a warthog while on safari in Tanzania, died while hunting birds. Luciano Ponzetto, 55, died this week after he was out hunting with friends and slipped on the ice tumbling to his death down a ravine near the Italian city of Turin.luciano-ponzetto2

According to The Sun, Ponzetto had been trying to shoot wild birds to eat when he died. He had recently returned from a shooting trip in Canada where he bragged he had “several big hits.”

In November 2015, Ponzetto was pounded with hate messages worldwide after photos appeared on social media of him posing with his rifle next to the body of a once magnificent lion. The lion’s death drew even more ire as advocates compared the killing to Cecil the Lion shot by American game hunter Walter Palmer in October, 2015  in Zimbabwe. According to Ponzetto, he said he had killed the lion several years previous and the photos had only recently appeared. Those defending Ponzetto said he had a permit to kill the animals and did nothing wrong. Ponzetto openly tried to defend himself in various interviews and on social media, however the public wasn’t buying it:

“I know that I have done nothing wrong. I am being criticized by people who do not know me. I have always loved my work and I have always loved animals. I will carry on hunting until the law changes,” Ponzetto posted.

The unwanted publicity at the kennels where Ponzetto worked near Turin caved into the massive campaign of animal advocates complaining, and after 16 years as the medical director the game hunter was fired.luciano-ponzetto

“We are totally opposed to any form of hunting or abuse of animals, whether they be wild or domestic, the kennels said in their public statement.

Social media sites have labeled the vet’s accident as “karma.” Authorities said he died instantly due to the fall and there was nothing that could have been done to save his life.

A lumpy, bumpy, but incredibly sweet, 14-year-old beagle is in need of a foster home. On Monday, Elaine Seamans, with the At-Choo Foundation, reached out with a plea for help for the elderly dog.

Seamans wrote, “WHO WANTS TO FOSTER?? Lumpy, bumpy, masses hide a LOVELY twinkling star of a girl who is a beautiful 14 grand years old.” She added, “I don’t think I’ve ever met such a bumpy, Professor of Love. It must be love bursting out, because she is also filled with smiles and happiness!”

According to Seamans, there is a rescue agency interested in helping this sweet senior beagle, but a foster home is needed. This elderly dog, named “Lola,”  is currently in the medical building at the Baldwin Park Shelter (Los Angeles). Her ID number is A3223009.

Man who tormented husky in dumpster charged with cruelty

A Chico, California man has been charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty for allegedly tormenting his husky by throwing her into a dumpster and using a pole to strike the garbage bin. On Monday the Butte County District Attorney’s Office filed the charges against Andrew Aaron Lovato Jr. for the incident that happened on November 8th.

According to the KrcrtvNews, a video captured Lovato dragging a medium sized dog across a parking lot by her collar. He then picks the dog up by the neck and throws her into the dumpster and proceeds to throw garbage, including a television and then using a pole to bang around the outside of the dumpster as the frightened husky was held captive. Several minutes later, the dog was lifted out of the dumpster and dragged back into the apartment.

Two days later, on November 10, the Chico police were made aware of the incident when an employee of the complex turned over the disturbing video showing the abuse to the tormented husky. Investigators questioned Lovato, who admitted he was “disciplining” his dog and trying to scare her, because she had made a mess on the apartment floor. When he tried to rub her nose into the floor, the dog turned around to bite Lavato. The officer did not see any injuries to the dog, but advised Lovato to find a new home for the dog.

On November 25, the tormented husky was found abandoned in Glenn County, where she was impounded by animal control officials. Chico police took the dog into custody the next day. After a veterinarian examination no injuries were found, however the District Attorney’s Office, upon further investigation filed the misdemeanor charge against Lovato based on his “admitted actions which amounted to an illegal ‘torment’ of the dog.”

The dog will remain in the custody of the Chico Police Animal Control pending the outcome of the new charges.

Dumped cross-eyed kitty seeks home for Christmas

An abandoned black and white tabby cat named Bob, who lives on the streets, has not been able to find a home. Described by the townspeople along Jubilee Crescent in Coventry, England, as the look-a-like for the hypnotized panther Bagheera from the story The Jungle Book, the cross-eyed kitty was dumped two years ago by her owner after he left in the middle of the night – leaving Bob behind to fend for herself.crossed-eye-cat-2

According to YahooNews, the news agents of McColl felt sorry for the shy cat and built her a little hut where she could stay, but so it seems no one has offered her a permanent home because of her “looks.”

“We don’t know what’s wrong with her eyes; she’s always been like that,” explained one of the staff. “It doesn’t seem to affect her at all, she’s fine, but she’s grown shy because people haven’t handled her in so long.”

And now the locals are putting out a plea hoping that Bob finds a wonderful home for the holidays. If interested in giving sweet Bob a home, please contact the McColl’s newsagent.
