For days, Suzette Hall, founder of the nonprofit animal rescue, Logan’s Legacy 29, had been searching for a frightened, stray dog who had made her home along the precarious sidelines of the 605 Freeway in Pico Rivera, a city located in southeastern Los Angeles County, California.

Four long days, Suzette sat in the bushes on the side of the busy highway setting traps and doing everything she could to bring her to safety. According to nearby residents, the dog had been living along the freeway for more than a month.

When the dog disappeared the first time, Suzette had to leave, but then she was notified the dog had been spotted again; this time her rescuer would not leave without her. Suzette went to the same location day and night. She waited….
And waited…
My heart would sink watching her. She would run along the freeway, from one exit to the next, then into the field, up against buildings, circling back again… over and over. Like she had her own little path, just trying to survive.
May 6, was the last day the lost pup would ever have to risk her life running along the freeway and trying to survive. She finally went into the trap; Suzette couldn’t believe her eyes. She started to cry.

I have named her Ribbon. Because you wrap a precious gift with a ribbon, and she is absolutely a gift. And because you tie a ribbon around a tree when you refuse to give up on someone coming home.
The next day Ribbon was bathed and groomed, and Suzette sat with her. She was able to rub and pet the dog’s sweet face and had the opportunity to spend time with her. Sweet Ribbon just soaked up every second of the love and attention that had been waiting for her. There was no doubt she wanted to be rescued.

Her health will require a series of antibiotics to treat severe interdigital pododermatitis. The painful oozing, weeping and draining tracts in her little feet make her very uncomfortable. She had been suffering from the condition for a long time. Soon the antibiotics will help, and she will feel better.

Ribbon, that freeway is way behind you now. No more running scared. No more surviving alone. Now it’s time to heal your physical wounds and your scared little heart. We love you so much already, sweet girl.
Make sure to check out her photos – she’s actually showing us some adorable doggy smiles.
